When Olga is forced by financial hardship to rent out a room in her home, a man moves in, secretly bringing along his nine-year-old son. Struggling with loneliness and his own worries, the boy unexpectedly forms a bond with Olga. As his father tries to rebuild his life, a remarkable relationship slowly develops between Olga and the child, and the lives of all three become increasingly intertwined.
Moscas was selected for the Main Competition of the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival. It received the second-highest rating from the international film critics covering the festival, making it one of the standout discoveries of this year’s Berlinale. Despite this international acclaim, Moscas has not yet secured Dutch distribution. We are therefore especially proud to present this remarkable film at the 013 International Film Festival.
On our opening night, we welcome Mexican screenwriter Vanesa Garnica as our special guest. After the screening, she will talk about how Moscas came about, the writing process, and the film’s main themes.

Wanneer Olga uit financiële nood een kamer verhuurt, trekt een man bij haar in die stiekem ook zijn negenjarige zoon meeneemt. De jongen, die met zijn eigen zorgen en eenzaamheid worstelt, vindt onverwacht aansluiting bij Olga. Terwijl de vader probeert zijn leven op orde te krijgen, ontstaat er langzaam een bijzondere band tussen Olga en het kind en raken de levens van deze drie mensen steeds meer met elkaar verweven.
Moscas werd geselecteerd voor de Hoofdcompetitie van het Filmfestival van Berlijn 2026. De film kreeg van internationale filmjournalisten de op-één-na-hoogste waardering van de competitie en groeide daarmee uit tot een van de grote verrassingen van Berlijn. Ondanks deze internationale erkenning heeft Moscas nog geen Nederlandse distributeur. Daarom zijn we extra trots dat deze bijzondere film te zien zal zijn tijdens 013 International Film Festival.
Op de openingsavond verwelkomen we de Mexicaanse scenarioschrijver Vanesa Garnica als speciale gast. Na de vertoning gaat zij dieper in op het ontstaan van Moscas, het schrijfproces en de thema’s die in de film centraal staan.
